BRING ON THE PLAYOFFS! SPEED EARN FIRST ROUND BYE Stories and Game Summaries below
56 14 SPEED SECURE #2 PLAYOFF SPOT, FIRST ROUND BYE Eagle, ID - "Team" is the name of the game. The Speed played as a team and as a result, handed the Titans a big loss and a long trip home. With the 'pep' back in their step and the playoffs knocking at the door the Speed rallied from their slump and dominated. Helena played tough, only a handful of men made the trip. Long trips can be killers, as the Speed learned last week. The Speed now go into the playoffs with a first round bye and await the winner of the Idaho Matador/Morgan Marauder round 1 game.
22 34 LONG TRIP, LAZY PLAY DOOM SPEED Great Falls, MT - The 8 hour road trip to Great Falls turned out to be too much for the Speed. With the Speed playing with hardly any fire, the motiviated Great Falls team came out strong and fast, putting a quick 14 on the Speed. It was too much a deficit to overcome.

10 15 SPEED SUFFER FIRST LOSS Eagle, ID - It's often said by coaches that "you win the turnover battle, you win the game." Bad snaps, turnovers, penalties and mental errors doomed the Speed saturday in Eagle against a very tough Bulldawg squad. With the score at 3 - 0 Speed in the 2nd quarter, the Speed set up to punt from their own 20. Three false start penatlies later they were inside their own 10. A rolling snap to the Speed punter and Magic Valley went up 7 - 3. Penalties took the Speed both backward deep into their own territory and advanced the Bulldawgs deep into Speed territory, at the most inopportune times. This would be the story of the game as the Bulldawgs did a fantastic job of capitalizing on Speed mistakes and ultimately won this hard fought battle. Our hats go off to the Bulldawgs and we wish the best at their playoff run. More story to come...

50 0 SPEED HANDLE SABERCATS Summary courtesy of www.rockymountainfootball.com (New Plymouth, ID) The Boise Speed came out looking to extend their winning streak to 5 games as they traveled to New Plymouth to take on the Snake River Sabercats, who themselves have been struggling and are looking to get their first win of the season. The first meeting between these two teams saw the Speed dismantle the Sabercats enroute to a 50-0 win. Although the Sabercats were hoping for a different outcome it was ugly from early on as the Speed got on the board early. In the 1st the Speed took a commanding 22-0 lead on several TD's, the first was a 14 yard Guy run (Pass Good) with 2:33 on the board, on the Sabercat's next possession Dane Knickrehm then picked off a Nate Pickens pass and took it to pay dirt from 36 yards out (pass good), finally the scoring stopped as Phil Zeek hauled in a 72-yard bomb from Brian Stogsdill (Pass Failed) with 0:43 left in the first. The first quarter would finish with the Speed holding a commanding 22-0 lead. The second quarter was comparatively quiet as the only score of the 2nd was when Zach Jockumsen stepped in front of another Nate Pickens pass and returned it 52-yards for another score (kick good) with 7:47 left. The second would see no more scores as time ran out, leaving the Speed with a 29-0 lead. The third would start without a lot of action, but saw both defenses tighten up. The Speed were able to get the ball to the 1 yard line where Bill Martin was able to rush it in for the score (run good), this gave the Speed a 37-0 lead with 7:42 on the clock. The Sabercats would again be held scoreless through the quarter as they continued to struggle. In the fourth the Speed would continue their scoring as Roger Gonzalez would score from 1 yard out (Kick good) 11:57. The Speed would score one more time in the fourth as Brian Stogsdill would hit Ben Matthewson for a 40-yard TD pass (kick failed). The Speed would close this game out with another 50-0 win over the Sabercats much like they did in Week 1. Brian Stogsdill would be 8 of 18, 2 TD's, with 179 yards on the day hitting 8 different receivers. Phil Zeek would have 93 yards on the ground on only 5 carries and 1 TD. Defensively for the Speed Brooks Engstrom (8 tackles, 1 sack) and Zach Jockumsen (6 tackles, 1 int, 1 TD) would lead the Speed Defense. The Sabercats would struggle on the day as Nate Pickens (4 of 25, 3 Int's, 36 yards) and Jardon Briggs (2 of 8, 14 yards) tried to get the Sabercat rolling to no avail. Tom McLinn would lead the Sabercats in rushing with 44 yards on 8 carries. Defensively, the Sabercats were lead by Mike Bender (6 tackles, 1 FR), Travis Barfuss (5.5 tackles), Montel Hammer (3.5 Tackles), and Carl Dyas (3.5 Tackles). The Speed is the only undefeated team in AA or AAA and are in the Driver's seat for the playoffs. They have locked up a playoff spot, now it's just a matter if they hold on to the #1 seed. The Sabercats on the other hand, have pretty much assured themselves of not making the playoffs and are playing to spoil other teams playoff hopes.

14 7 BULLDAWGS FALL TO SPEED The Boise Speed traveled to Jerome, ID to face a tough and motivated Magic Valley Bulldawg team. Both knew it would be a hard fought contest, as was proved true. The Speed entered the game without their starting QB, Tyler Collingwood, and back-up QB/TE Brian Stogsdill. Both were out due to injury. Also missing was starting TE Max Wilson. The Speed knew they would have to dig deep to pull out the win against this Bulldawg squad. Adam Guy was asked to take over QB responsibilities and move from WR to behind center. After a stop by the Speed defense, Guy would find Britt Hall (2 TDs) for a 23 yard TD. Putting the Speed up 7-0. The Speed defense would have a tough time cornering Bulldawg QB Jared Burks as he often squeezed through the initial rush and made several plays. Penalties and containing Burks would be a thorn in the Speed D's side the entire game. In the beginning of the 2nd quarter, after a punt return deep into Bulldawg territory, Adam Guy would again find Britt Hall for a 26 yard TD play. The Speed D then blocked a Magic Valley field goal attempt as they threatened to score. The score was 14-0 going into half. The second half was a dog fight, as both offenses would drive and be stopped by both team's defense. The Bulldawgs gained some momentum after consecutive penalties against the Speed D and got behind Speed coverage for a catch that brought the ball to the 3 yard line. Magic Valley's RB Hoagland took it to the end zone after a few plays. The Speed offense could not quite find a way to score in the second half but put themselves in a position to win the battle of field position. The Speed fumbled the ball down in the red zone and the Bulldawgs may have had a chance to rally but the Speed D then found an answer for Burks and the Magic Valley offense, as they amassed several sacks. The game would end at 14-7. The Speed (5-0) travel to New Plymouth, ID to face the Snake River Sabercats (0-4) next Saturday.

30 13 SPEED COMPLETE SWEEP OF MATADORS The Boise Speed awaited the arrival of the Idaho Matadors on Saturday knowing the game would be a dog fight. Emotions and tension ran high in Eagle, ID. However, it was quickly decided who the top dog was. As the Matadors recieved the kickoff they hoped to use momentum from the last contest to strike first. Matador QB Tom Bennett's pass on the third play of the drive was intercepted by Speed LB Heath Wall, a sign of things to come. The Speed promptly put the ball in the endzone on a Collingwood to Stogsdill 20-yard TD pass. The Matadors next few drives were shut down by the Speed Defense, who looked past the red cape and went straight for the Matador. The Matadors played well defensively also, not allowing another point in the 1st quarter. To begin the 2nd, long time Speed kicker Erik Harbison put his leg behind a 42 yard field goal, bringing the score to 9-0. Collingwood soon after ran it in from 4 yards for another Speed TD. After yet another stop by the Speed D, Collingwood looked to run for a first down. He was hit hard and lay on the turf. As the Matadors cheered his injury, Brian Stogsdill warmed up his arm and the Speed it's animosity. Stogsdill would soon find Britt Hall for a 25-yard score. The score stood 23-0 at half. As the second half began, the Speed offense sputtered a bit as it had the last game. The defensive struggle took both teams through the 3rd quarter without any points on the board. After an interception the Matadors put together a drive and capped it off with a 15-yard TD run by Anthony Pomerlee. The Speed would quickly give the ball back to the Matadors and it looked as if the Matadors had a chance at a comeback. With the entire Idaho sideline yelling and screaming backing their team Tom Bennett would throw his final of 4 INTs to Heath Wall (2 INTs, 1 TD) for a 65-yard TD return. The air left the Matador sideline as the score stood at 30-7. As more and more Speed players saw good playing time, the Matadors mounted a TD drive with 6:07 remaining. A toss to the corner of the endzone to Javon Lincoln. Leaving the final score at 30-13. The Speed now move on to face a tough Magic Valley squad in Jerome, ID.

21 14 SPEED HAND MATADORS THEIR FIRST LOSS The Boise Speed traveled to meet an old rival in the Idaho Matadors and the game turned out to be a very tight contest. Both teams played solid on either side of the ball. Speed QB Tyler Collingwood (1 Rush TD, 2 Pass TD) ran for a TD in the first quarter making the score 7-0. The Matadors then stopped the next Speed drive in the Red Zone as the Speed lost a fumble on a QB to RB exchange. The Matadors then drove the ball the length of the field for a score as Matador QB and ageless wonder Tom Bennett found Javon Lincoln in the endzone to notch the score at 7-7. The Speed then mounted a drive of their own when Collingwood found Brit Hall (1 TD, 1 INT) on a quick pass, which he turned into a score. The score was 14-7 at half. Early in the second half Colllingwood found Ben Matthewson (1 TD) at full stride for a long Speed score. Trailing 21-7 as the fourth quarter began, speedy Matador RB Anthony Pomerlee broke free for a 72 yard TD run to bring the score to 21-14 The Matadors found themsleves in scoring position with less than a minute to play and trailing 21-14 when Tom Bennett was intercepted by Speed DB Dane Knickrehm (3 INTS) with 17 seconds left. The Speed then kneeled on the ball and left the final score 21-14. A great game by both teams and they will do it again this weekend at Thunder Stadium at Eagle High, home of the Speed.
